Akhmim is a large town in the east side of the Nile, in Sohag Governorate, in Upper Egypt . It was the capital of the ninth Nome of Upper Egypt and its ancient name was Khent-min. Min, the fertility god , was the lord of Khent-min where he had a sanctuary. In 1981, the ruins of a Greco- Roman temple with colossal statues of Ramses II and Meritamen were discovered. In the Christian Coptic Era, many monasteries were contained within the city's walls. When the city was excavated, many Christian manuscripts were therefore found .
Unfortunately, Akhmim has extensive ancient cemeteries that are not completely explored. Nowadays, Akhmim is regarded as the most densely populated cities in Egypt and the majority of its inhabitants are Christians. It is famous for its textile industries and handmade products that is usually displayed in Akhmim weekly market. It is linked with Cairo and Aswan governorates with railroads to facilitate visiting the monumental places in that area. A must go, if you want something historical. For information on how to get there contact your local tour operator.
If I could change…
The urban planning – planning is not a favourite past time of the urban planners in Egypt. This we all witnessed recently on Khazan street, and also Peace Road. It would be brilliant if there was a set plan that was set, and shared, so that all citizens had the opportunity to go and give their input, or prepare themselves for the upcoming road blocks that may somehow affect their lives. The same would apply to all other kinds of planning for that matter; electricity cable service, water cuts and so on and so forth. So if there is someone who is reading this that can make a difference, please get in touch with us by emailing Editor@sinaiweekly.com

Egyptians are very accommodating and they will go out of their way to help you and respond to any questions you have. Most Egyptians require little personal space and will stand within inches of you to talk! You will find that whenever you start talking with an Egyptian, you will inevitably draw a crowd, and often the Egyptians will start discussing, among themselves, about the correct answer to a question.

Homeopathy In Sharm
When you visit the doctor, he will ask you what is wrong. "My foot hurts," you might say, and the doctor will lift the foot and look at it from all angles.
He has seen this before. Within 15 minutes, he will learn all of the details he needs to make a diagnosis. He will write on a pad, hand you a slip of paper, and you will hobble out the door. This is how medicine is done, right?
Why is it then, that for the same complaint, a homeopath will require that you sit in her office for at least an hour? Why will she ask you about your childhood, your dreams, your preferences for food, and so on?
What are these tiny white pills she has recommended you, and why do they have a name that sounds so strange?

Real Estate In Sharm
Over the past few years the resorts surrounding the Red Sea have witnessed a property boom which parallels those of Spain and Dubai in recent times. At the forefront of this increase in demand is the resort of Sharm El Sheikh, ideally situated on the southernmost tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Buoyed by a rapidly expanding tourist industry, Sharm El Sheikh is today one of the most popular destinations for people looking to purchase a property in Egypt.

Do You Believe In The Evil Eye?
Hello Muriel, Do you believe in the evil eye? Thanks, Mona
Dear Mona,
I don’t think it is about belief; it is more about respect and acceptance for other people’s beliefs. It is not about my opinion either as opinions become diluted with age.
The ‘Evil Eye’ is believed by many cultures to be able to cause bad luck or injury on the person to whom it is directed.
The concept and significance of it varies widely between cultures, but for me the psychodynamics are of ‘envy.’
It has been mentioned several times in the Bible and is also mentioned in the Koran.
