Do not climb a tree to look for a fish

Walking down the Naama Bay promenade, I stopped to get my favourite ice-cream from Vanilla during my lunch break. I had an hour to burn. The weather was beautiful. As I was quietly enjoying my favourite Sinai morning sunshine, and ice-cream, I came across one of my mum’s old friends. I always loved this woman – she was always so soothing to talk to and be around. When mum and I would fight, she was always the one to bring back the peace. I haven’t seen this woman in 12 years.
We chatted for hours, remembering all the good days that we had, and how wonderful and terrific life was back then. Then there was the bit about doing business in sharm, and how difficult or easy it can be – depending on which wave you are riding. Then it turned into the complaining session about the usual – you know, the whole set of complaints about how life in Sharm is this, or that, umm.. the people in Sharm this and that , - the usual conversation that unfortunately daunts our minds. If you have been in Sharm long enough, you often find yourself having this same conversation for no defined reason. It drives me mad.
She looked at me with a smile on herself, and said, “ … you know you never change. You are just as you were when I last saw you. You always think you know it all, and if you don’t know it all, you will continue questioning why you don’t know it all. It is much more simple that that. Focus. Do not climb a tree to look for a fish.”
I was left flabbergasted by this sentence so simple. That’s exactly it. That was the mistake I was making. I kept looking for the fish, only not in the sea.
I am grateful for that awakening.

Homeopathy In Sharm

When you visit the doctor, he will ask you what is wrong. "My foot hurts," you might say, and the doctor will lift the foot and look at it from all angles.
He has seen this before. Within 15 minutes, he will learn all of the details he needs to make a diagnosis. He will write on a pad, hand you a slip of paper, and you will hobble out the door. This is how medicine is done, right?
Why is it then, that for the same complaint, a homeopath will require that you sit in her office for at least an hour? Why will she ask you about your childhood, your dreams, your preferences for food, and so on?
What are these tiny white pills she has recommended you, and why do they have a name that sounds so strange?

Do You Believe In The Evil Eye?

Hello Muriel,

Do you believe in the evil eye?

 Thanks,
Mona

Dear Mona,
I don’t think it is about belief; it is more about respect and acceptance for other people’s beliefs. It is not about my opinion either as opinions become diluted with age.
The ‘Evil Eye’ is believed by many cultures to be able to cause bad luck or injury on the person to whom it is directed.
The concept and significance of it varies widely between cultures, but for me the psychodynamics are of ‘envy.’
It has been mentioned several times in the Bible and is also mentioned in the Koran.
