Solid Waste Management

Last issue we published photos showing the outrageous Solid Waste management project on the Dahab – Nuweiba road. Obviously we were not the only media to have been left flabbergasted by such ridicule to human intelligence, and there have been articles published in print and online about this issue.

So what happened after this disgrace was laid out to the public?
The Dahab City Council has been kind enough to address the matter instantly, taking immediate action, and have started to clean out the rubbish dumb, in preparation for the implementation of the Solid Waste management program, funded by the European Union under the South Sinai Regional Development Program.

It was also made clear that the Dahab City Council investigated the matter, and have come to a conclusion that one of the key contracted establishments, did not do their part in the program, and have are being dealt with legally. In addition, a new tenor is being looked out for, in aim of completing this very successful project to be.
This article is not to be blame or point fingers at who went wrong, what should have happened and did not happen, this article is to inform you that change is occurring. We are not here to judge the level and the commitment of the change, we are here as a window panel to display all events related to this project.

With this in mind, we would like to thank the Dahab City Council for their immediate actions upon hearing about the mishap, and we are looking forward to having a clean Sinai, as that is our aim. Let us keep Sinai clean, the way that it is meant to be, so that we can continue to enhance our tourism, and bring up the level of trust between the residents and the officials. If everyone works hand in hand, then matters will move forward. If people want to use this situation as a golden opportunity to jump onto people’s cases, then that too will not result in the positive change that we are looking for.

In the mean time, here is what you can do as a resident to help keep Sharm Clean:
1.    Please do not litter the streets and the deserts.

2.    If you find any illegal waste or construction dumping, please send a report with photos to the City Council. The Governor of South Sinai has a very open mind, and is a great listener. Chanced are given to those who seek them.

3.    At home, please start your own solid waste management. The way to do this is very simple. Have 3 different rubbish bags; one for glass, one for plastics, and one for biodegradable goods. If you start at home by doing this, you help the lives of trash collectors, as they receive the trash pre-prepared.

4.    Please re-cycle. You will be amazed at how you can make use of old jars, boxes, formula cans, soft drink cans etc.. It is a chance for you to get creative.

Live and let live, and let us all start together.

Do Women Really Believe the Earth is Flat? If they Venture Forth Will they Fall off the Edge?

I do not walk in front of my man to test the ground for landmines.
(E.Moon)

The ‘F’ word has no place in my vocabulary.
Instead I have a belief in ‘EOG’
Feminism is an outdated adjective.
EOG sounds more like a substance to save the planet doesn’t it? However it is my own personal belief in ‘Equality of Genders.’ There now I have said it.
Feminism has been around since the 18th century. In 1792 May Wollstonecraft published her Vindication on the Rights of Woman, an important work advocating the rights of women.
Mary’s attitude stems from being born the daughter of a brutish, tyrannical father who bullied his wife into an exhausted state of servitude.
My answer to the male gender that retains the belief they can chain a woman’s mind and body is simply, “get a grip.” No one can own or chain a mind, you cannot steal another human being’s thoughts and you cannot strangle a soul.

An Expert's Guide To Bargain Shopping In Cairo

By Soraya Morayef

Anyone who claims that they can’t find bargain shopping in Cairo is delusional. First of all, we Egyptians love a good bargain; we may not have created the concept of sales and discounts, but we very well could have. Just take a look at any discount store around the world (Primark, Dollar Store, Forever 21), and you may find several of us arguing loudly over the Sale of the Day rack.
