To Sinai With Love

I am sat here at my computer, pondering what I can write about, considering it is the, what I like to call - the red season. This is the time of year, where every Made in China product, starts to turn red. Red flowers, red teddies, red rabbits, red ribbons, red roses, red chocolates, red cheeks, red lace lingerie, and so on and so forth. So I have decided that this article is dedicated to St. Valentine’s, but in a different way. It’s not about how to celebrate a day with sappy couchy, mouchy, love stuff. It’s not about how to influence the mind of consumers by making them feel that Feb. 14th is a day where one is obliged to show their partner how much they are loved. Well, what if on that exact day, one doesn’t feel like love.

It Can Always Be Worse

I took a drive around Sharm the morning after the storm, thinking that what I had been through was the worst ever. My house was leaking all night, my windows were shattered, my car almost drowned, and outside my house was all muddy.

I had mixed feelings – there was a sense of sorrow, yet a strange sense of happiness in myself – it was almost like I was happy I went through something like that and survived. I grew up in Kenya, where it used to rain a lot – most of April, and the day always keep going on normally. Less than 12 hours of rain here left me feeling like my world was almost tumbling down.

When do you know enough is enough?

 Hello Muriel,

When do you know enough is enough?  I mean form every aspect, dealing

with clients at work, or dealing with a partner, or a mother with a

kid - when do you draw the line because you just cant take it anymore?

Do you keep trying to make things work, or is that an illusion? Do you

listen to your gut, or do you listen to your mind. When is enough,

enough?

Thanks,

Thomas

Hello Thomas,

Sounds like you have already reached the end of your tolerance level.

Once you start feeling like a door mat, frustrated, nervous and as if no one is listening to you, it is probably because they are not listening to you.

Raja Yoga

Raja Yoga is codified from esoteric practices that are thousands of years old. It has developed several branches to accommodate different personality styles. The major yogas are Bhakti (a devotional approach that opens the heart, it is best for those who are primarily emotionally-oriented), Jnana (an intellectual approach that leads to wisdom, it is best for those who are primarily mentally-oriented), Karma (an active, service-oriented approach, it is best for those who are more extroverted and who find meaning mostly through relationship),

Meat Eaters Are Killing The Planet

According to a recent statement by a respected authority on Global Warming, the best way people can reduce their impact on the environment is to stop eating meat.  Lord Stern of Brentford, one of the world’s leading authorities on climate change says people should give up meat to stop global warming.  Lord Stern predicted that once people were fully educated on the ramifications of eating meat that in the future we may live in a society where meat eaters are shunned with the same ferocity as drunk drivers.  There are a variety of ways in which meat contributes to climate change and according to Lord Stern, the United Nation’s summit in Copenhagen addressed these issues.

I Took A Panchakarma Treatment

To love yourself is not selfish. To love yourself is the beginning to learning how to love and appreciate others and things. Taking the decision to do the Panchakarma treatment is simply showing yourself that you still able to respect, love and care for you own good.

The Avatar Craze

During the last month, I was bombarded with Avatar stories. At the beginning I had no clue everyone was on about, so I decided to do a little bit of research. A large number of smart people I know were very impressed with the movie, and the under-lying meanings that it had. I couldn’t resist – I had to see it. I headed on down to Cairo (as it was the closest cinema to me showing it), and watched it.

Start your day with…Good Music

Research has shown that stress can be handled by music. Music enters into the brain cells thus affecting the human brain. Medical scientists have proven that a person that is stressed out can actually listen to some kind of music and become well. How? The researchers said that since stress comes as a result of life events such as starting a new family, starting a new business, starting a new job, and relocating to a new place, one can actually listen to good music and feel good because as stress touches the human mind negatively so good music also touches the human mind positively. Music helps you to forget the stressful life events and remember the momentous events that once happened in your life.

Start your day with…Optimism

Superior Health
In a study of 99 Harvard University students, those who were optimists at age 25 were significantly healthier at ages 45 and 60 than those who were pessimists. Other studies have linked a pessimistic explanatory style with higher rates of infectious disease, poor health, and earlier mortality.
Greater Achievement
Another study showed that pessimistic swimmers who were led to believe they’d done worse than they had were prone to future poor performance. Optimistic swimmers didn’t have this vulnerability.
Persistence
Optimists don’t give up as easily as pessimists, and they are more likely to achieve success because of it.

The Bedouin Keen Eye

Two Bedouin agreed to meet by a certain tree in the desert. One of them reached the tree before the other and waited there for his friend to arrive.

He waited for several hours but his friend failed to turn up. While he was waiting, another Bedouin arrived on the spot and the two started to chat.

The waiting man told his interlocutor that he was waiting for a friend.

The second man noticed some tracks on the ground and immediately asked the waiting man:

"Did your friend have a camel?"

"Yes", said the waiting man.

"Was the camel one-eyed?"

"Yes", said the waiting man.

"And the camel is blind in the left eye?"

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Dear Muriel,
Recently a lot of things have been sending me shooting down - every
time I think, yes I have the plan - bammmmm - it goes stumbling down -
again and again and again. Helllpppppppppp!

A) Sounds to me you are a little confused about the word ‘PLAN.’
Plan is usually defined as something you want to achieve.
Imagine you have a piece of furniture with 6 drawers one above the other. Write down what it is you want to achieve and the time span you require and put it in the top drawer.
Write down how you are going to achieve it, presumably it is something rational (in other words you do not have the desire to become an Astronaut but you have a fear of heights)! Put what you have written in the bottom drawer.

Sustainability without sacrifice in the Middle East

While the Middle East is one of the world’s greatest energy consumers, it is also one of the biggest investors in developing green energy sources and is navigating its way to sustainable growth
With its distinctive blade-like spires, the World Trade Centre in Manama is a striking building by any standards. Yet it is the three wind turbines suspended between its twin towers that have earned the building, and its UK-based architects Atkins, so many plaudits from designers and environmentalists.
But the pioneering innovation has not been easy. While the turbines can be seen spinning when dignitaries are visiting or when Bahrain hosts the Formula One championship each spring, for most of the year they remain static.

Clean Sharm News

DIRTY NEWS - ILLEGAL DUMP IN THE NATIONAL PARK!
An illegal dump site was discovered in the boundaries of the St. Catherine National Park, in an exceptional beautiful enclosure close to the Dahab road.
What makes that even worse: These tons of garbage come exclusively from the airport! The Government set up strict environmental laws, which forbid illegal dumping, and extra laws to protect our National Park. And "governmental waste" is dumped illegaly? That cannot be true..... But unfortunately it is, as these pictures proof.
The whole ‘raison d'être’ of the airport is the tourism, and tourists come because of our precious and unique environment. Spoiling it means destroying the source of income of nearly everybody in South Sinai.

Stretching relaxes tight, tense muscles that often accompany stress.
•    Improves circulation:
Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles. Blood flowing to your muscles brings nourishment and gets rid of waste byproducts in the muscle tissue. Improved circulation can help shorten your recovery time if you've had any muscle injuries.
•    Better posture:
Frequent stretching can help keep your muscles from getting tight, allowing you to maintain proper posture. Good posture can minimize discomfort and keep aches and pains at a minimum.

It expanded to producing plastic toys in 1940. In 1949, Lego began producing the now famous interlocking bricks, calling them "Automatic Binding Bricks".

Tyres to be more eco-friendly from 2012
Tyres will have to be labelled from 2012 to include information on their energy efficiency, wet grip and noise impact, according to a new EU proposal which is meant to improve their quality.

Although the new labelling system may increase production costs, the European Commission hopes it will be compensated for by a decrease in fuel consumption due to the efficiency of the new tyres.

The new rules would also provide for the possibility that member states provide incentives in order to promote the use of more fuel efficient tyres, however, it will be up to every member state to come up with these incentives.

Shark Attack

I’m sure you have all heard of the recent Shark’s attack in St John’s and that it is a much discussed topic between many of you. This attack resulted in the death of a snorkeler by an Oceanic White-tip Shark (Carcharhinus longimanus). Until now, it is not exactly known why the sharks are behaving in such a manner, but it has been suggested that it could be due to some divers feeding them (which is illegal) as well as crew members on board certain boats who have be baiting them.

But it all seems to change after Chila gets married then slowly her marriage falls apart and she becomes the survivor of the group with the others looking up at her. It is Chila’s transformation that makes this story so amazing as well as, how each one of them starts to see life through different eyes and from a different perspective; remembering how they use to be and how they are now.

Spiteful Women

Every now and then when you’re out and about you come across a glitch, the kind that makes conflicts between nations seem like a minor stitch. These encounters yield quite a blow to both a man’s ego and his glow. Now we’ve passed the point, one would like to think, where both male and female mixings would cause such a stink. The catalyst alas, is a persona within, the female psyche which explodes with sin. A defense mechanism perhaps, or so they’d like us to think, it’s more of a bite that’s intended to sting.

Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist artist who was born on 30 March, 1853 in Groot-Zundert, a village close to Breda in the province of North Brabant in the southern Netherlands.

He came from a family of artist as art and religion were the two occupations to which the Van Gogh family gravitated. In his early adult years, he worked for a firm of art dealers and at the age of 20, was earning more than his father. After working as a teacher for a brief period, Vincent became a missionary worker in a very poor mining region. But it was not until 1880 that he embarked upon a career as an artist.

Charlie Chaplin

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, better known as Charlie Chaplin, was an Academy Award-winning English comedic actor and filmmaker.
Chaplin was born on 16 April 1889, in East Street, Walworth London. Starting off as a child performer, it was not long before Chaplin became one of the most famous actors as well as a notable filmmaker, composer and musician in the early to mid "Classical Hollywood" era of American cinema. With a period of over 65 years working in entertainment, Chaplin was considered one of the most creative and influential personalities of the silent-film era. He acted in, directed, scripted, produced and eventually scored his own films. But, it was in 1919 that he co-founded United Artists along with Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D. W. Griffith. Chaplin won one Oscar in a competitive category, and was given two honorary Academy Awards; there is even a statue of Chaplin in Leicester Square, London.

So, it comes as no surprise that they have won several awards including ‘the best restaurant in Egypt’ and The Best Restaurant in South Sinai’ twice (if the Ritz don’t do it, who will!?) “La Luna is a modern Italian restaurant, where every week, we consecutively serve specialties from one part or other of Italy.” – Declared Mr. Abd El Hamid Ahmed, Executive Assistant Manager Food & Beverage.

The Party Around The Corner

They did it again; dazzled everyone by their amazingly high standards, but this time not just with their tempting bakery products or the delicious cuisine at the restaurant but the spectacular club above… Spending time in the corner is usually known as a punishment but definitely not in this case, as on 29th January, the corner hosted a whale of a party with many exclusive guests.

Solo By Jill Mansell

It all started on the night Tessa Duvall, a struggling artist, reluctantly agreed to accompany her best friend Holly to a party at the elegant Charrington Grange Hotel, where she worked.  Not being a partygoer, Tessa planned t sneak off early, for parties full of strangers bored her and this one was no exception. However, that was until she met Ross Monahan, owner of the hotel and who had quite a reputation with the women. So, Tessa simply accepted Ross for what he was, a sensational one-night stand...until she realised, weeks later, that one-night stands can have far-reaching consequences...

Easy Print In Sharm

The season is starting, and that means marketing, marketing, and marketing. The road race begins for businesses to get out there, and capture their required target markets. The common methodology for this, prior to the opening of Easy Print, was, let’s print flyers thousands of flyers, using offset printing techniques, so we can distribute them all over town town. Surely if one prints 5,000 flyers and distributes them, people will show up to their venue. Isn’t that how it always worked? At Easy Print, and in Europe and the States, that is considered an ultimate waste of money and paper.

Today in Sharm, there are new tools you can use, to ensure your print requirements are made Easy.

To Sharm Parents

I was fortunate enough to become a parent, and what I can say so far is, parenting is a tough job – tougher than any other job, let alone in a place like Sharm, with all its diversities. With this mind, I did a little bit of research. I spent the last 2 weeks having chats with different parents about what their take on parenting in Sharm is like. It was very interesting what I learnt.

My Daughter My Love

As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.
(Solomon Ibn Gabirol)

Daughters warm your heart.

From the day they are born until the day you hand them over into someone else’s care.
A daughter is truly a blessing, a gift from God.

What do you do when a nervous young man asks your permission to marry your angel?
When you know her heart and wings have already flown into his nest. When you know this nervous young man is worthy of her love? You rejoice.

The happiness you feel is twofold, the first is recognition that she has finally grown up and chosen a partner to accompany her on the most important journey of her life.

IF LOVE IS THE ANSWER CAN YOU PLEASE REPEAT THE QUESTION?

I hold it true, what’er befall, I feel it when I sorrow most, ‘Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all’

(Alfred Lord Tennyson)

Do you believe in the saying:

“It is Better to Have Loved and Lost, then Never to Have Loved at all?”

To love or not to love? To lose or not to lose a love?

Both of the above have little relevance, none of us choose to fall in love and none of us would choose to lose a love.

Two of life’s greatest treasures, love and friendship.

Personalized Marketing

"Hello (enter your name here) welcome back to the GAP. We have your size of jeans on sale this week." Sounds like a scene from the Tom Cruise movie, "Minority Report," but this type of futuristic personalized marketing is not as far away as many people may think, and even better, it’s coming to you, right here in Sharm.

It’s always easier to sell something to someone, when you know who they are, what they like, what they don’t like, and what they have purchased before, from you or from someone else. Personalized marketing makes it cheaper and easier for businesses to reach their target audience. All you need is access to the right people, with the right information, and the right technology.

2010 - The Year Of The Tiger

According to Chinese Five Element Astrology Calendar, 2010 is the Year of Metal Tiger. Gold is related to Metal and money. People who like to talk about wealth will say that 2010 is a Golden Tiger year. In Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth) theory, the color representing metal is White. Therefore, we also can say that 2010 is the Year of White Tiger.  So what’s in store for you this year, according to Chinese Astrology? Here is a brief, and let me stress, just a brief. If may be true, or may not be true, but here is what our findings tell us:
