World Cup Sum Up

By the time this issue is out the great Mondial will be over, and if there is one thing that we can take away from the games played so far, it’s that Fifa president Sepp Blatter’s vehement resistance to the use of technology has become untenable.

Museums You've Probably Never Been To

By Lena Alsayegh
We all know that Egypt has a wealth of historical sites and a rich overlap of cultures spanning thousands of years. However, only a fraction of us have actually ever seen the Pyramids or been to Luxor, let alone the Egyptian Museum. So, we’ve decided to spotlight a few places to whet your cultural appetite if you should ever find yourself with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon.

The Dreams Will Only Die With Me

A dream starts with one clear thought.
(E. MOON)

Do you ever feel your head won’t be quiet? Are a million thoughts racing through your brain telling you, ‘gotta do this, gotta do that, gotta do, gotta do!’ Do you feel your mind is racing, does there seems to be no end to the physical and emotional tasks you are setting yourself? Everything becomes confused; you don’t know where to start to eliminate all the rubbish going around in your head.

Sufi Dancing in Cairo: Trance of a A Dance

Ghouri Complex - Qubbet Al-Ghouri by Lena Alsayegh from www.Cairo360.com
One of the most breathtaking experiences to have in this city is to witness the amazing Sufi dancers perform in the heart of Islamic Cairo. Without sounding clichéd, it really is a feast for the senses, and will have you gazing in amazement at how the musicians' fingers move so fast, and how the twirlers don’t drop down in a dizzied frenzy.

FACE to FACE by E.Moon

You can cover the mirror to hide your face, but your true image is from within. (E. MOON). When I feel too tired to read, I listen to the television. or radio. If there are others in the house I wear the ugliest and largest ear phones which man has ever devised. My explanation for this is one of unadulterated selflessness, in other words I have no wish to inflict my choice of programs on others.

Egypt Top Ten

It’s that time of year when people travel to new places. If you are stuck in Sharm, can’t make it back to Europe, why not do a tour of Egypt’s top 10:

1.) Pyramids of Giza
There is nothing more mysterious, and more worthy of seeing in Egypt than the esteemed Great Pyramids of Giza. These are the pyramids of Khufu, Kafhre, and Menkaura. These perfectly shaped structures leaves everyone in awe and in wonder about how exactly they were made, considering that the ancient Egyptians had no advanced technology to work with.

Sharm's Bake Queen

1. Can you tell me a little bit about your project?
My project is Baking homemade Treats (different kinds of Cakes, Cookies, Cupcakes,..) with high quality and reasonable prices .

2. What inspired you to do this?
To be honest my husband inspired me, and encouraged me to carry on doing this, as I love to indulge him with new treats, and of course he is my financer ☺ Whenever we go somewhere to eat, he always says, “you make it better”. Also I have a baby boy, and I have to make sure that he can eat a hygienically, healthily made dessert. Family and friends admired my homemade dessert and presentations.

Till Death Do Us Part

Isn’t the complex, programming and planning of a wedding amazing?
The mind boggles, it takes as much energy and foresight as starting up an International Company.
It could be simplified by two people standing in a garden or on top of a mountain, holding hands and saying the words, “I do, ‘till death do us part.”
The majority of weddings take a year to organise and a full, healthy bank balance to suffer a terminal illness.

Why Not Could Be Life Altering

We received this email from someone in Sharm, who wanted to share her story with you. We loved it when we received it, as it is truly inspirational. Enjoy.

I have noticed in your previous issues that you keep trying to motivate people through your article. So maybe you might find my story inspiring. Like most individuals on this planet, I have spent a good deal of time fantasizing about the life I would have if only I could choose. I would be more confident. I would be more adventurous. I would get more education and get a better paying job. I would choose satisfying and complimentary relationships. I would feel like I had a valid place in this world.

The Confused Expat

Stubbornness has its virtues and should be practiced vigilantly by the expatriate, but first it must be channeled appropriately.
For instance, the expat mom from Texas in Turkey, who greeted visitors with: "When y'all come into my house, y'all are enterin' the USA!", had it wrong (and I don't just mean geographically). Obstinate in her rejection of acclimation in any manner, she retreated, thereby not only losing out on a chance to educate herself linguistically and culturally, but also becoming clinically depressed in the long-run and virtually unable to care for her family.

Success Is A Whole Lot Like Cooking

Never give in.. never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in - Winston Churchil

We often try our expertise in cooking at our homes, when we become forced to, or just for fun, and we somehow manage to make some items, which we think are edible and tasty, leaving alone what others think about our cooking  It is very necessary for us to know one or two tricks of cooking at the time of emergency, otherwise we have to keep happy with the water and biscuits for breakfast, though we will somehow manage to have our lunch/dinner at Terrazzina, any of the pubs, Il Mercato, or such other arrangements.

Hot And Bothered

A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you have been taking. (Earl Wilson) Sighing, leaking, moaning, groaning, and grunting. Falling on the bed, tumbling off the bed, switching on the air conditioner, freezing, same symptoms as swine flue. Turning off the air conditioner, opening windows, doors, savaged by mosquitos, blood boiling, closing the doors, inhalation Raid. All symptoms of what?
Heat, excessive heat!. I can’t stand it.

QRious About QR Codes?

What Is A QR Code And Why Do You Need One?
QR is short for Quick Response (they can be read quickly by a cell phone). They are used to take a piece of information from a transitory media and put it in to your cell phone. You may soon see QR Codes in a magazine advert, on a billboard, a web page or even on someone’s t-shirt. Once it is in your cell phone, it may give you details about that business (allowing users to search for nearby locations), or details about the person wearing the t-shirt, show you a URL which you can click to see a trailer for a movie, or it may give you a coupon which you can use in a local outlet.

Mummy Dearest

In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists
(Eric Hoffer)

There is one thing in this life which is constant, ‘change.’
It can occur slowly or in a second.
It can be unexpected or premeditated
It can be feared or welcomed.
It can be invited or refused, but even the refusal will bring about change.

Solid Waste Management

Last issue we published photos showing the outrageous Solid Waste management project on the Dahab – Nuweiba road. Obviously we were not the only media to have been left flabbergasted by such ridicule to human intelligence, and there have been articles published in print and online about this issue.

Homeopathy In Sharm

When you visit the doctor, he will ask you what is wrong. "My foot hurts," you might say, and the doctor will lift the foot and look at it from all angles.
He has seen this before. Within 15 minutes, he will learn all of the details he needs to make a diagnosis. He will write on a pad, hand you a slip of paper, and you will hobble out the door. This is how medicine is done, right?
Why is it then, that for the same complaint, a homeopath will require that you sit in her office for at least an hour? Why will she ask you about your childhood, your dreams, your preferences for food, and so on?
What are these tiny white pills she has recommended you, and why do they have a name that sounds so strange?

Real Estate In Sharm

Over the past few years the resorts surrounding the Red Sea have witnessed a property boom which parallels those of Spain and Dubai in recent times. At the forefront of this increase in demand is the resort of Sharm El Sheikh, ideally situated on the southernmost tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Buoyed by a rapidly expanding tourist industry, Sharm El Sheikh is today one of the most popular destinations for people looking to purchase a property in Egypt.

Do You Believe In The Evil Eye?

Hello Muriel,

Do you believe in the evil eye?

 Thanks,
Mona

Dear Mona,
I don’t think it is about belief; it is more about respect and acceptance for other people’s beliefs. It is not about my opinion either as opinions become diluted with age.
The ‘Evil Eye’ is believed by many cultures to be able to cause bad luck or injury on the person to whom it is directed.
The concept and significance of it varies widely between cultures, but for me the psychodynamics are of ‘envy.’
It has been mentioned several times in the Bible and is also mentioned in the Koran.
